Project Update - 11 November 2019
Piling works will commence for the new floating marina on Monday 11 November 2019. The floating marina is located directly in front of the Royal Geelong Yacht Club building as shown in Figure 1.
The piling works will be completed from a floating barge and will be installed with a hydraulic hammer. The pile driving will create noise that may be detected from your premises. In total there are 17 piles to be installed for the floating marina.
In December 2019, the piling works for the wave attenuator will commence, this structure has a total of 56 piles and is identified in Figure 2.
Project Background
The redevelopment of the Geelong Safe Harbour Waterfront Precinct is a significant and defining civic project for the City of Geelong.
Royal Geelong Yacht Club is delivering the project that has received funding contributions from City of Greater Geelong, the Victorian Government, the Federal Government and Royal Geelong Yacht Club. • Safety is our priority in all activities.
Construction of the On-Water infrastructure will deliver a spectacular wave attenuator enabling the public to walk out on the water. It will also provide critical safe harbour for visiting vessels, as well as construct new marina berths.
On-water construction will be completed in March 2020.
Stage One On-Land elements including rebuilding of the Victorian Sailing School, RGYC Junior Clubhouse and public realm will continue, and construction is expected to commence in May 2020.
Early On-Land demolition works of the existing Victorian Sailing School Building will be carried out in November 2019.
